Nowadays, people are coming forward and discussing mental health issues more openly.Also, people are finding better ways to support one another.

Men are a bit hesitant to reach out for support when they face mental health issues.And that’s where men’s Mental Health Awareness Month plays an important role in shedding some light on men’s mental health problems.

June is recognised as Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month by Mental Health America (MHA). But one should know that not every country considers June month as Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

In the United Kingdom, November month is considered Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.In the month of November, men in the United Kingdom grow mustaches to raise awareness of men’s mental health issues.Along with mental health conditions, there are some other serious health issues, like prostate and testicular cancer, that need some attention. 

The color that symbolizes men’s mental health.

Usually, the color green is used to show support for men’s mental health in the month of June.

There are different ways to support Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

One can raise some charity funds. Organize an event to raise money and donate it to some NGOs that are actively working in the field of creating awareness about Men’s mental health issues and also helping those men who are suffering from mental health problems.

If a person approaches you and discusses his mental problems with you, you can give him some moral support and guide him to visit a good doctor that you know.

Men’s Mental Health concerns

Even today, men and boys tend to be hesitant or try to hide their mental health issues and shy away from discussing these things with others. They feel that by letting others know about their condition, they might reveal their weakness, and they think it will show a lack of masculinity in them.

But people don’t understand that mental health problems are similar to any other physical ailment and that they need to consult a doctor.

Even though mental health conditions are seen more in women compared to men, one reason for this is that men don’t come forward with their issues and tend to hide their problems. This is the reason why women with mental health conditions get more help from mental health services compared to men with mental health conditions.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the suicide rate among males was four times higher than the suicide rate among females. Men contribute to about 80% of total suicides.
